Imagine living in a house made of tree trimmings, using materials that you can grow in your own garden. There is a lot of pruning left over in the Netherlands. Most of it is now burned, which is a shame, because we can make these kinds of boards from this willow branch. And these boards can also be reused for a new house, or new houses can be grown from them, which is not the case with the materials we currently use in construction, which become waste. Every year in the Netherlands we produce around 22.5 million kilograms of construction waste. That is 25 percent of all waste in the Netherlands. So now we burn construction waste and wood; we should be smarter than that. At Beyond Wood, we produce building materials from pruning waste that can be used several times. In this way, we have greatly reduced waste and particulate matter and enriched nature. So the whole of the Netherlands is already full of sustainable building materials.
