We want to have enough food for everyone in the world, we want our wastewater to be cleaned and we need energy for our daily lives. But it all produces methane, which is a greenhouse gas thirty times stronger than carbon dioxide. I want to get rid of the methane, while doing something useful with it. I put it into a battery. In a battery, electrons move from one side to the other, creating an electrical current: electricity. I put methane into one side and let microbes eat it. By eating it, they release the electrons from the methane creating electricity. At the same time, the methane is broken down. In this way, we can get rid of the methane and tackle climate change, while at the same time doing something useful, namely creating electricity. From greenhouse gas to green energy using methane eating microbes.
