As material chemists, we often wonder how to make things that don't exist yet. What materials for green energy, or ingredients for better batteries. We can use computer simulations to try them out before we make them in the lab. But there are millions of different materials and possible reactions that we could simulate. Even with the fastest computer that would take a lot of time. That's where I use AI. AI can combine already existing information to make predictions. Basically, we can ask AI: ‘If I use this new material, will it work better than the others?’ The prediction is much faster than the simulations. You can use the computer or even your cell phone for the predictions. The AI becomes more powerful with time as it learns from bigger and bigger databases. So eventually, for example, we can create green energy sources that don't emit CO2 or make better batteries that can last longer or are lighter, so that we can create electrical airplanes. That is why I believe that AI can help us create a greener future.
