Most medicines are quickly excreted in urine. These medicines contain valuable and scarce raw materials. Unfortunately, these substances are currently lost through the sewer system. This causes an environmental problem because these substances cannot be properly purified. They accumulate in our rivers and groundwater. It is becoming increasingly difficult to purify this water for use as drinking water. At Zereau, we solve both these problems: we install our devices close to the source, for example in hospitals, where patients urinate into a special toilet in their ward. The toilet's filter extracts valuable raw materials from the urine, such as iodine from contrast agents, which industry can then use to manufacture LCD screens or lenses for sunglasses. There are many other valuable medical raw materials. Isn't it great how our little trip to the toilet can make such a big difference?
