Only 2% of the plastics you throw away are actually recycled because hundreds of different types of plastic end up in the bin, making it unclear if it can be recycled and how. This is because these plastics simply do not mix. When in doubt, it is incinerated — or worse — it contains unexpected PVC, for example, which can release toxic chlorine gas if recycled incorrectly. And this is just one example of what can happen. This is why we are developing MADSCAN® technology. This measurement technique uses heat to accurately identify the types of plastic present on a large scale. Each piece of plastic melts in its own way and at its own temperature. This enables us to identify the types of plastic in the batch. We use AI algorithms to translate this temperature data into the plastic fractions using our database. MADSCAN® ensures that fewer plastics are incinerated, allowing new, high-quality products to be made from recycled materials.
