Have you ever watched a coral grow? Nature effortlessly creates those complex architectures with impressive precision. If you were to grow a crystal out of the same material in the lab, it usually looks like this one: quite boring. Being able to manufacture materials to our needs, as elegantly as nature creates corals, would truly change the way we manufacture high tech products, like solar cells. Inspired by nature, we create complex structures in our lab, like this one, just 1000 times smaller. It is assembling itself in water, and we can control its shape as well as its composition. Thanks to this research, we can let functional materials assemble themselves in a beaker. Ultimately, this can improve the way we make high-tech materials.

NEW MATERIALS INSPIRED BY NATURE
